I LOVE YOU CORDUROY

I never saw a cat chase a car before. Yet there he was running after my car as fast as he could. Trying to peek into the driver's side window. Looking. Searching. Hoping. Praying.

Maybe this will be my people. This might be the car they forced me into and then dumped me from.

I stopped and looked, Corduroy stopped and looked, then his face showed disappointment. I was not his 'People'. He was still lost and had no way to get home.

His eyes told me the story. Corduroy was one of many unwanted pets dumped in the valley. His cruel former owner ignorantly thought he would find food and shelter. HE DIDN'T.

But not for lack of trying. What Corduroy wanted was to find his way home. Find the people he loved so much.

I opened my trunk and got a bowl full of cat food. As I came near, Corduroy backed up. Who is this woman and why is she coming near me? Will she be kind? Will she help me? I am so hungry. I am lost. I am scared!!

As I placed the food on the grass near where I saw Corduroy running, he moved closer. When I returned to my car, he ran to the food and began to eat. He was starving and barely managed to chew before swallowing.

I was not able to get the sweet scared cat out of my mind and returned to the cemetery a few days later. I hoped to catch Corduroy and hide him at my house until I could find a Fur-Ever home for him.

Then I found him. About a mile from the cemetery ... on the side of the road ... no doubt he had chased more cars looking for the people he loved.

Corduroy had been hit. Head tucked between his front paws as if in prayer. He was dead.

I pulled over and cried. Who could be so thoughtless? To dump a cat so sweet, a cat so full of love. How I wanted to find whomever did this and force them to see what has happened!

Note to Corduroy: You are loved. I love you. I asked my Dewey to bring you into our Heavenly Family. One day when God chooses I will rejoin you and you will never want for love again.

2015 Note to Corduroy: I have found a wounded feral cat, orange & cream colored guy. I named him Corduroy in your honor. He is healing. Corduroy2 is in our family now.
