John C. Bethke, 65, a retired furniture salesman, passed away Sunday evening at his residence, 2114 High street, following a lingering illness. Born on July 22, 1890 in Reynolds, he was the son of the Rev. and Mrs. John H. (Dorsch) Bethke. His father served the Reynolds community for many years as a minister. The deceased was former manager of the H. Wiler company furniture store and the Golden Rule furniture department. For the past ten years he assisted his wife, Mabel, with the operation of a furniture business in their home. Bethke was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran church, Tipton Lodge No. 33 F. & A. M., the Elks lodge, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a veteran of World War I.

Survivors in addition to his wife include: a son, John H., at home; a daughter, Mrs. Ora Ann Edson; of Irvington, N. Y.; two sisters, Dorothy and Ann Bethke, of 424 West Broadway; a brother, William, of 600 Wheatland avenue: and two grandsons, James and David.

The body was taken to the Kroeger funeral home, where funeral rites are pending. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Monday.
