Son of Josiah Hale(1757-1811) and Abigail Williams(1760-1808). Daniel served in the "War of 1812" as a private in the U.S. Infantry as a member of the 30th Regiment under the command of Capt. James Taylor. For his service, he received a land warrant of 160 acres in Illinois and a future pension of $8.00 per month. He traveled to Scioto County in lower Ohio in 1816 and settled there. He married Phoebe Ann Adams(1801-1891) on 8 Sep 1817 at Scioto Furnace, Scioto, Ohio and produced four children in Illinois before divorcing about 1830. He then married Mrs. Ada Mary Aldrich Pool(1804-1851) of Scioto County, Ohio on 2 Jan 1831 at Scioto Furnace. They moved to Holland's Grove near Peoria, Illinois in 1832 and returned to his old home in Ohio in Oct 1833. They moved to Carroll County, Indiana in the fall of 1844, and soon, thereafter, moved to Cass County near what is now Walton, Indiana. They had produced six children over their travels before Ada died 7 Dec 1851 near Walton. Daniel again remarried on 4 Nov 1852 to Mrs. Anna Armstrong. She died 25 Feb 1867. Daniel spent his remaining days among his children and lived with his daughter, Mrs. Amanda Malvina Hale Ward, at her home near Walton after he was suffering from paralysis(stroke). He died at her home 22 May 1874. Daniel was always a pioneer farmer. His leading characteristics were his sterling honesty, his industry and frugality, and his religious zeal. A devout and consistent Christian, he died in the hope of a glorious immortality.
