~MY ANCESTOR~
Samuel was baptized Nov. 4, 1645 in New Haven. The son of ROGER & MARY (NASH) ALLING, my immigrant ancestors, Samuel first married Elizabeth Winston, daughter of Sgt. John & Elizabeth (Austin) Winston on October 24, 1667 in New Haven. They were the parents of six children. She died December 8, 1682.

1. Samuel Alling, 2nd, b. Oct. 16, 1668, d. 1732 at Newark, N.J.
2. John Alling b. March 27, 1671; d. April 23, 1734 at Elizabeth, NJ.
3. James Alling b. July 29, 1673; d. March 17, 1752 at Wallingford, Conn.
4. Roger Alling b. Dec. 9, 1675; d. May 2, 1676 at New Haven, Conn.
5. Roger Alling b. July 28, 1677; d. April 1759 at Allingtown, Conn.
6. Theophilus Alling b. Feb. 17, 1680; d. 1757 at East Haven, Conn.
On October 26, 1683, he married his second wife and my ancestor, SARAH CHEDSEY, daughter of DEACON JOHN & ELIZABETH CHEDSEY of New Haven. They were the parents of five children, one of which was CAPT. DANIEL ALLING, my ancestor.
Samuel signed the New Haven Colony Contract in 1639. He, like his father, and grandfather, was a blacksmith. Their home was at the corner of Church & Center Streets.

10. Caleb Alling b. Sept. 7, 1694; d. Dec. 9, 1756 at Hamden, Conn.
11. Esther Alling b. Jan. 10, 1699.
Sgt. Samuel Alling did not have a will at his death. His widow, Sarah, was appointed executrix, and Joseph Moss & John Punderson were appraisers of his estate. His estate valued at 526 pounds 7 shillings was distributed as follows: Samuel, the eldest son, received a double portion of 96 pounds, Roger (third son) had already received his portion; John was given a right in the paternal homestead, 2 acres in the meadow at Westside, one acre in town and eight acres near his father's farm in Allingtown; David & Caleb received land at Oyster point; and the remaining eight children received 48 pounds each. The two underaged children, Caleb & Ester, chose their mother to be their guardian.
His tombstone was not found along the wall of the Grove Street Cemetery where his parents' and John & Elizabeth Chedsey's tombstones are located.
