The large Boreman family cenotaph memorial at Wethersfield states: "Mr. Samuel Boreman First Ancestor of the Boardman Family." All of Samuel and Mary (Betts) Boreman's sons who died prior to 1713 (Joseph, John, Jonathan and Nathaniel) and who left a probate record were known by the surname of Boreman. Then, prior to 1720 for unexplained reasons the three surviving sons of the family (1st born son Isaac, 2nd born son Samuel and 5th born son Daniel) used the surname Boardman, with their respective known gravestones (if still extant) inscribed either as Bordman or Boardman. The probate of the estates of these latter three sons is also under the name of Boardman, with Samuel and Daniel signing their own wills with the surname of Boardman.

Isaac Boardman (q.v. Boreman), eldest child of Samuel Boreman and Mary Betts, b. Feb. 3, 1642/3 at Wethersfield, where he d. of record and intestate May 12, 1719, Æ 77.

Isaac married by late 1665 (1st child b. July 1666), Abiah Kimberley, dau. of Thomas and Alice Kimberly, bapt. Dec. 19, 1641 at the New Haven, Conn. 1st Church. She d. Jan. 6, 1722/3 of record at Wethersfield, Æ 82. They had six known children, but only four are of actual birth record at Wethersfield: Isaac, Samuel, Thomas, Sarah (Frary), Abiah and Eunice (Williams).
