Webb, Joseph, Pvt. Co. I 9th La. Inf.. Enl.... 7/7/1861, Present on allrolls until Dec., 1861. Re-enlisted for the war, Camp Carondelet, Va., 2/5/1862. Present on Rolls until 6/1862. Record copied from Memorial Hall, New Orleans, La., by the War Dept., Washington D.C. 6/1903. Born Mississippi, occupation, Farmer, Res. Franklinton, La., age when enlisted
28, Married , Discharged from Wound.

A few observations on Joe's info! A reference to him in the October 27, 1900 issue of "The Franklinton New Era" newspaper (this is found in L S U Special Collections, Hill Memorial Library), listed as an obit. Seemed that this would pinpoint his resting place and some info on his family, but it was just a list of casualties for Co. I, 9th Louisiana Volunteers at Port Republic, VA,. The way it's worded, he was killed June 9, 1862. The info on his service records dispute this. Card seven shows him in the 1st battle of Winchester May 25, 1862, and then severely wounded at the battle of Port Republic. Card eight shows him at the Confederate Hospital at Charlottesville, VA, August 3, 1862 and then being sent to the General Hospital at Lynchburg (VA ?) on August 11, 1862. Card 10 shows Joe being Discharged from Wound. Record dated: March 18, 1865 on the lines near Petersburg, VA , this is very confusing, maybe as though he survived the 1862 wound or was very slow to recover from it. At any rate it seems he survived the war and was discharged, we just don't know where he's buried.
