Bryant Francis Figeroid Mar. 27, 1918 - Jan. 31, 2011 Resident of Oakland Bryant Francis Figeroid, 92, passed away at home on Oakland, where he was born and lived his entire life. He is survived by his daughter Carol Figeroid-Burgi of St. Paul, Minnesota, son Claude Figeroid and daughter-in-law Carmen Guerra and granddaughter Alegra of Oakland and his second wife of 6 years, Dorothy and her two sons Wayne and Guy Corrie. His first wife, Marguerite Figeroid, preceded him in death in 2001. He was the third son in a family of five brothers-Melvin, Edwin, Milton and Kenneth Figeroid. He graduated from Castlemont High School in 1935, where he chose to become a professional musician. He played trombone professionally throughout the Bay Area and West while attending San Francisco State. For two years he was a member of Exhibition Band at the World's Fair on Treasure Island in 1939 and 1940. He went to the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York to further his trombone studies in 1941, where he met his first wife, Marguerite. They married in 1942. He was a member of the Army Air Corp Band at Bolling Field in Washington D.C. from 1942 to 1945, that played all over the US, England and liberated France, as well as the funeral of President Roosevelt. He and his wife returned to the Bay Area where he graduated from San Francisco State in 1949, with a degree in teaching. He was the instrumental music supervisor in San Leandro from 1949 to 1978, where he inspired thousands of students in music and the arts. After retiring from teaching, he operated a successful fund raising service in the Bay Area before really retiring in 2004. In 2005, he married a long time friend and business associate, Dorothy Blankinship. A rosary will be held at Santos-Robinson Mortuary in San Leandro, California on Thursday February 3, at 7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Paschal Baylon Church on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 11:00AM with a reception to follow in the parish hall.
