Harry Carter and Cora Landrum were twenty-four when they married on July 18, 1932 in Warm Springs, Bath County, Virginia.

The 1940 census revealed Harry was a laborer in the wood yard at the Paper Mill. He had worked fifty weeks of the year and earned $720. They owned their home and their real estate value was $1000. They were living at the same residence on Reservoir Hill in Alleghany County, Virginia as in 1935. Harry had a fourth grade education and Cora had a sixth grade education. Household members: Taft H. Carter (34), Cora (34) and Larry T. (5).

They rented out their original home on Reservoir Hill after they built their new home next door which faced Pocahontas Avenue. They moved in just before their son, Glenn was born in 1942.

{{HARRY CARTER - Harry Taft Carter, 76, of 518 Pocahontas Ave died Sunday in Alleghany Regional Hospital.

Born May 17, 1908, in Rockbridge County, He was the son of the late Lewis Carter and Sally Agnes Carter.

He was a retired wood yard foreman for Westvaco Inc.

He is survived by four sons, Leonard L. Carter of Covington, Larry Carter of Bossier City, La., Glenn W. Carter of Titusville Fla. and Johnny C. Carter of Ridgway; one brother, Dave Carter of Warm Springs; one sister, Mrs. Nancy Shinault of Lexington; twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3:30 pm from the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harold D. Moffitt Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Union Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm at the funeral home.}}

{{HARRY CARTER - The funeral service for Harry Taft Carter will be held Wednesday at 3:30 pm from the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harold D. Moffitt Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Union Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Merrill Mays, Emmett Mays, Clarence Perry, Harold Perry, Glen Spellman and David Harold, Alternate will be Jerry Hooker. Honorary pallbearers will be selected from friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 pm at Arritt Funeral Home and at other times will be at Mr. Carter's residence at 518 N. Pocahontas Ave., Covington.}}
