Hannah Jacobs, pioneer lady
of Democrat township, died Saturday
night at her home near
Cutler, of paralysis, death being
due to failing health, of almost
a year's duration. The aged
lady sustained an attack of
apoplexy last autumn from which
affliction she never fully recovered,
although her lingering illness
never became alarming until just
recently. About three weeks ago
she was again stricken with
the same disease and one week
later she was attacked by a stroke
of paralysis, which proved to be
her last sickness. (She became
totally unconscious Tuesday
morning and sunk into a death
sleep, which ended at midnight,
Saturday night.

Hannah Jacobs, third daughter
of John and Marie Aikens, was
born near Waterford, Juniata
county, Pa., March 24, 1840, and
with her parents immigrated to
Carroll county, Indiana, when
about three years of age, where
she grew to womanhood. In
1864, November 6th, she was united
in marriage with her now bereaved
husband, Marcus Jacobs,
who had just arrived home from
the Civil war to live a peaceful
life with his ever faithful life partner.
This peaceful relationship
extended over a period of
fifty year. To bless this happy
union seven children were born
four sons and three daughters;
two sons, namely Mark A., and
an infant son having preceded
the mother to the realms of eternal
rest. The living children are:
Mrs. Clara Koble, of near Sedalia;
Mrs. Mary Tansey, of Mulberry;
Mrs. Mabel Nolan, of
Boone, Michigan, and John Jacobs
and Corwin Jacobs, both of
Frankfort, Indiana. There were
also thirty grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren, four
grandchildren having died in infancy.
She was converted in
1907, under the labors of Rev. J.
K. Bliss, of the Cutler Presbyterian
church, of which church she
became a member and to her
principals she conscientiously
adhered to the close of her life.
Her manner of life was such that
she exhibited and exemplified the
religion of the Lord Jesus "Christ
and in her last affliction, which
extended over a period of three
weeks, though speechless during
the last five days, she retained
her mental faculties to such a degree
that she waved her hand
which gave evidence that she
had a clear and undeniable title
to mansions in the skies. Before
she became unconscious she expressed
a zealous desire to be
with her Redeemer above and often
petitioned her Father to take
her, home; these being her last
words.

She had the confidence of all
her friends and neighbors and
was a faithful wife, a kind and
loving mother and a shining
light to all that she came in contact
with. After coming to Indiana,
Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs came
to Carroll county and purchased
a tract of land, when almost the
whole county was a wilderness.
After the most ardent labors the
land was cleared and a home established
where they enjoyed the
fruit of their labors and reared a
family. This country home proved
to be the permanent residence
of the aged couple to the death
of the mother, who willingly gave
up all carnal things for a home in
Heaven and departed this life on
the 6th day of February, 1915,
having attained the ripe age of
74 years, 10 months and 12 days.
The funeral services were conducted
at the Cutler Presbyterian
churh on Tuesday at 10 o'clock
by her pastor, the Rev. J. K.
Bliss, of the corresponding
church. Interment was made in
the Rossville cemetery.
