Ralph was the fourth of six children. On April 14, 1948, he married Betty Jayne Youells at the West Pittston First Congregational Church, West Pittston, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. The couple raised two daughters and one son.
He and Betty were partners in the Antiquarian Restaurant and the C&S Supply Company in Tunkhannock, Wyoming County, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the American Legion, the National Rifle Association, and the Russell Hill United Methodist Church.
