Verle Dwight Barrett, age 73, of Dayton, PA, passed away in an automobile accident near Worthington on Friday, November 21, 2008. His beloved wife, Demona (Detamore) Barrett, was transported to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh for treatment but later joined him in death as a result of injuries she sustained in the same accident.

He was born on October 16, 1935, in Phoenix, PA, to Raymond and Olive (Anthony) Barrett.

Both Verle and Demona were members of the Dayton United Methodist Church, and active in the sport of horse harness racing for a number of years, with Rosemont Student capturing the track record at Sciota Downs in Columbus, OH. Verle was a proud founder of B&B Oil and Gas Production Company, and took great pleasure in his past endeavors as a licensed barber operating a successful barber shop near the campus of Taylor University. Verle was most well known for his great sense of humor, his elaborate storytelling, his great ingenuity, and his unyielding love for his family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Julie Barrett of Tampa, FL; his son, Barry Barrett of Dayton, PA; three brothers, Rev. Eugene Barrett and wife Lorraine of Dayton, Lyle Barrett and wife Lorena of Dayton, and James Barrett and wife Judy of Coraopolis, PA; three sisters, Patricia Hetrick and husband Venton of New Bethlehem, Irene B. Alyn of Cedarville, OH, and Paula Reedy and husband Herman of Mars, PA; a sister-in-law, Sharon Barrett of Cedar Rapids, IA; nine nieces and 11 nephews; 19 great-nieces and 23 great-nephews; and three great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Raymond Ira Barrett.

Verle also has a memorial in Milton Cemetery in Pennsylvania.
