'Born in Licking county, Ohio, Dec. 2, 1832, settled in Williams county in 1853; his father George Bowers is dead, and also his mother, Catherine (Gantz). March 20th, 1861, he married Emma R. Barnes, is living, but her mother Rachel (Boudinot) is deceased. To this union three children have been born - May and Etta, deceased, and Ruth, who is being educated for a teacher. Mr. Bowers enlisted at Edgerton, Ohio, Sept. 10th, 1861, at the age of 28 as a private in Co. E, 38th O.V.I. In April, 1862, he was in hospital at Cincinnati for two months with typhoid fever and measles, and was furloughed for ten days at hospital in June, 1862, reporting at hospital at expiration of time; his services consisted principally of guard and garrison duty and he was honourably discharged Aug. 9th, 1862, at Columbus, Ohio, on surgeon's certificate of disability. In 1864, Mr. Bowers was drafted after being discharged from his first enlistment and furnished a substitute to whom he paid $515.00 for services. His father was in the war of 1812; his wife's father was recruiting officer for Williams county in the late war. Comrade Bowers belongs to W.A. Slaughter Post 568, of which he holds the office of J.V.C.; his wife is a member of W.A. Slaughter W.R.C., in which she has filled all the offices; he has held various offices of his Twp., is engaged in carpentering and his postoffice address is Edgerton, Ohio.'
