Sandy fought a courageous 1½-year battle with cancer. A beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt and great aunt, she was the daughter of Kenneth DeWayne Decker and Beverly Mildred Dege Decker, both of whom preceded her in death. She attended Atchison High School in Atchison, Kansas, for her first two years and then moved with her family to Great Bend, Kansas, where she graduated from Great Bend High School in 1963. She was a 1966 graduate of St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City, Missouri. Beginning her career at St. Luke's, she was later a head nurse at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, 1977-1995, and a nursing supervisor at Excelsior Springs Medical Center in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, 1995-2009.

During her 43-year career as a registered nurse, she earned the respect of many doctors, hospital staff and other nurses, and her dedication to and love for the profession of nursing touched thousands of lives. She was repeatedly recognized officially for setting the standard for patient care among entire hospital staffs.

Sandy was a fine sportswoman during her student years. She loved baseball and football and spent her free time with her beloved family watching her favorite movies, doing needlework, quilting, fishing, dancing and enjoying music of all types.

At the time of her passing, she was survived by her two sons, Jason Luebbert of Lee's Summit, Missouri, and Shane Luebbert of Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters, Cheryl Davis (James) of Lawson and Tamara Bartocci (John) of Olathe; a brother, Geoffrey Decker, and his partner, Charles, of Chicago; 3 nephews, 1 niece and 2 great-nephews.

Sandy was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ (Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints).

Graveside services were on Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at 10 AM at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 701 N. 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Sandy's cremains were interred beside those of her mother in her mother's grave.
