American Folk Figure. Although she is not well known, her grave itself has received world-wide attention. Nadine Earles wanted a doll house for Christmas, but died just before the holiday. Her parents had a doll house built around the grave with her toys and other personal belongings placed inside.

The Valley Daily Times-News (Lanett, AL.) Dec. 20, 1933, Wed.

After an illness of several weeks, little Nadine, the four-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Earles, died at her home early Monday morning.

Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock, conducted by Rev. G.M. Peery, pastor of the Central Church of Christ. Interment followed in the Lanett cemetery.

Nadine was the only child and the grief-stricken parents have the sympathy of their many friends in their sorrow.

Note: The obituary was incorrect as to Nadine being the only child, she had a brother born in 1931, Julian Jr.
--------------------
Nadine's 'Alabama Death & Burials Index' stated that she was born in Langdale, Alabama. That city name was not available on this site.
Cause of death: Diphtheria
Pneumonia (given on an attached photo)

1930 US Census, unable to locate. The family may have been living in the Chambers county, Alabama area. I assume that the family may have moved to Georgia by the time this Census was recorded, since Julian Jr. was born in Georgia a year later.
