This was one of my first pets. Lady was the sweetest Golden Retriever you'd ever want to meet. She hated being inside even in her doghouse. She'd dig 'caves' in the embankment adjacent to out house and sleep there summer and winter. That's why we gave her the nickname 'Bear'. We adopted her when she was 11 years old. My parents asked the vet if we should have her spayed. The vet just laughed and said she was way too old to get pregnant. A year later she had 9 puppies!
