Military funeral services for S/Sgt. Ural Fay Ausmus, who was killed in action Nov. 9, 1944 during World War II, near Gremecey, France, will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Aug. 8, in the Presbyterian Church in La Plata.
The La Plata Post of the American Legion will be in charge of the funeral services and burial which will be in the La Plata Cemetery.
The late S/Sgt. Ausmus was born July 9, 1916, near Love Lake, the son of Edgar and Nora Lilbern Ausmus. He attended schools in Sue City and Atlanta.
He entered service March 14, 1941, at Los Angeles, CA, and was sent to Ft. Knox, KY. He had further training at Ft. Ord, CA, and Ft. Lewis, WA. He left the United States on Feb. 11, 1944 for overseas duty, and arrived at Newport, Wales, Feb. 23, 1944 and in France on July 12, 1944.
He was promoted to Technician 4th grade on April 1, 1942, to Sergeant on May 6. 1942 and then to Staff Sergeant.
He was made tank Commander May 16, 1942 and Platoon Sergeant June 20, 1943.
Staff Sgt. Fay Ausmus, 28, member of a tank division serving under General George Patton, was killed in action in France, November 9, according to word received here by his sister, Mrs. Bryan Dunnington.
S/Sgt. Ausmus, who was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star, was buried in the United States Military Cemetery, Limey, France. The body has now been brought to the Christy Funeral Home in La Plata.
His father and mother preceded him in death several years ago, and also one sister, Mrs. Lawton Collins, of Atlanta.
He is survived by five sisters: Mrs. Clyde Wilson, New London, IA; Mrs. Bryan Dunnington, Boise, ID; Mrs. Winnie Talbot, Macon; Mrs. Evan Esterbrook, Del Norte, CO; Mrs. Eva Corrigan, Santa Monica, CA; five brothers, Erbie Ausmus, Monte Vista, CO; Albert Ausmus, Kansas City; Derril Ausmus and Elgin Ausmus, both of Atlanta; Everett Ausmus, Boise, ID and several nieces and nephews.
The official Report of Burial discloses that the remains were interred in Plot E, Row 9, Grave 215, in the United States Military Cemetery, Limey, France, located approximately sixteen miles east of St. Mithiel and fifteen miles north of Toul, both in France.
