During WWII, Pvt Allen was a member of Company E, 311th Infantry, 78th Division and died of wounds received in action in Germany.

---Funeral services for Pvt. Willard Junior Allen of Elmer, who was killed in action in Germany on February 8, 1945, are being held Thursday, May 19, at the Christian Church in Elmer. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion with burial in the Elmer cemetery.
---The body was to arrive in Elmer Wednesday morning and be take to the McCollum Funeral Home until the funeral hour.
---Pvt. Allen was born north of Elmer on January 23, 1923, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Allen. He graduated from the Elmer High school with the class of 1941.
---He was married to Alice Bell Cummins on October 2, 1942 and to this union one son, Raymond Willard, was born.
---He entered the United States Army on July 17, 1944 and received his training at Camp Robinson, Arkansas, going overseas in January, 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart and other medals. His body was first interred in the Magratten cemetery in Holland before being returned to this country.
---Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Allen of Atlanta; his son Raymond of Excelsior springs; four brothers and three sisters; Virgil of Elmer, Robert of La Plata, Clifford of Anabel, Norman and Hazel of the home, Mrs. Opal Agee of Kirksville and Mrs. Coleen Calhoun of La Plata; also four nephews and five nieces, three uncles, four aunts, a number of cousins and a host of friends.
