Calvin Carpenter, 95 of Joy went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 4th 2011. He was born Tuesday, September 21st 1915 in Missoula, Montana to the late Minnie LeBaron and Calvin James Carpenter of Forrest Lake, Minnesota.

He was an active member of Mt. Hebron Southern Baptist Church of Joy, Arkansas and 1st Southern Baptist Church of Bell Gardens, California. As a young man, Calvin grew up in Minnesota and worked in the Civilian Conversation Corps (CCC) where his love of wooded environment began.

He served in WWII as an aerial bomber mechanic. He retired as a die maker from Fiberboard Paper Company in Southern California, before moving to Joy. Calvin loved family and friends and spent his days repairing, revising, and renovating his "projects".

Calvin is preceded in death by his beloved wife, constant companion and helpmate Odie Duncan Carpenter of Joy, his parents and brothers David of Indiana and Emery of Minnesota.

He is survived by his brother Charles Carpenter of Minnesota, sisters Effie Peterson of Oregon, Luella "Janie" Poe, Mary Walsten of Minnesota. He has been Uncle "Couchie" to numerous nieces and nephews including Bobby, Vicki and Shannon Dahlem of Searcy, Teresa and Sean Lathrop of Honolulu, David and Tammy Holden of Sherwood.


Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 pm Friday, January 7, 2011 in the Chapel of Roller-Daniel Funeral Home in Searcy. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the Mt. Hebron Baptist Church in Joy with interment following at Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
