RODNEY ELBERT COLLINS
---Rodney Elbert Collins, 83, of La Plata passed away Tuesday evening (October 23, 1990) at the La Plata Nursing Home.
---Born December 27, 1906 in La Plata, he was the son of George Wallace and Ethel Wilson Collins. On October 18, 1936 in Hurdland, he married Viola "Vi" Gelbach who survives. Also surviving are one sisters, Mrs. Leland (Faye) Barnett of La Plata; one daughter-in-law, Rita Collins; two grandchildren, Eric Schrader and Chantelle Collins, both of Fort Madison, Iowa, and one cousin, Hazel Hunter Biddinger of Vermillion, Ohio, who was reared in the family home; three nieces, two nephews and several great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
---He was preceded in death by his parents and one son George E. Collins.
---Mr. Collins received his education in the Highland rural school and the La Plata High School where he graduated. He was a member of the American Legion and the Ninetieth Division of the U.S. Army, serving two years in the infantry during the European theater. After the war he worked in the La Plata Post Office, retiring in 1972 with 30 years of service. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was a member of the La Plata Community Presbyterian Church for over 50 years where he was a teacher, elder, clerk of the session, and he also sang in the church choir.
---Funeral services were held Friday, (October 26, 1990) at the La Plata Community Presbyterian Church under the direction of the Travis Funeral Chapel, La Plata, with the Rev. Greg Wood conducting the services. Burial was in the La Plata Cemetery.
---The family requests that those who wish, express their sympathy in the form of contributions to the La Plata Community Presbyterian Church or the La Plata Nursing Home. Contributions may be sent to, or left at Travis Funeral Chapel.
