---The body of Corporal John W. Campbell who died on the Island of Okinawa is being brought back to La Plata for burial. It will arrive here Friday evening and will be taken to the Christie Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 at the Christian Church in La Plata with Rev. Carl Huff, officiating minister and the American Legion conducting a military service.
---John W. Campbell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reverda Campbell, was born February 25, 1914 in the Sue City neighborhood where he made his home until 1937. At that time he went to California and was employed by the Wilcox Nursery at Monticello until March 3, 1941 when he entered the United States Army.
---He received his training at Camp Roberts and San Luis Obinsco and was sent overseas April 1, 1943. After service in Attn, Marshall Island, and the Philippines, he was with his Company in Okinawa.
---He died April 9, 1945 from wounds received April 6. The Purple Heart and Silver Star Medals were awarded posthumously by the United States Government in recognition of Corporal Campbell's sacrifice.
---Surviving are his mother and father of east of La Plata, two brothers, Alvin of La Plata and Ernest of Cook, Nebraska; two sisters, Lois Fern Wilhite of Kirksville and Ellen Slaughter of La Plata.

---Cpl. John William Campbell, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Reverda Campbell, was born February 25, 1914 and gave his life for his country April 9, 1945 at Okinawa.
---He was born near Sue City and spent his happy school days at the Sue City school. He spent three years in California where he was a truck driver for the Wilcox Nursery at Montebella.
---He entered the United States Army March 3, 1941 and received his military training at Camp Roberts, California, later being transferred to Camp San Luis Obispo, California where he finished his training. The last two years has been in the South Pacific.
---He leaves to mourn his departure, his father and mother, two brothers, Alvin and Ernest; two sisters, Mrs. Etta Slaughter and Mrs. Lois Wilhite; four nieces and four nephews; grandmothers, Mrs. W.H. Ocker of Novelty and Mrs. J. H. Campbell of Garden Grove, California, a number of uncles and aunts and a host of other relatives and friends.
