~~~MY DADDY, a father some children can only dream about, and he was mine and he picked me!!~~~
Edward J Veech Sr. was the greatest,Husband, Brother,Dad,Grandfather and Great-Grandfather that any family could ever have.
He was predeceased in death by his beloved wife Kathleen(nee O'Brien)on 12/11/03. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War.
My Dad worked for a very short time as a bank teller until he became a New York City Police Officer, eventually retiring after serving the people of New York City for 27 years.He retired as a Sergeant.He was known as a fair and good man, even to some of the "perps" on the street.
My parents finalized their adoption of me in Sept. 1962.Until I met my biological family I can't say I really ever thought of them. I had everything I needed and wanted with these two angels on earth. After meeting them I thank God that I had nothing to do with them growing up.A cold chill actually runs through my soul at the thought of what "could have been".(The nicest thing I can say is I met my biological cousin Billy who is now like a brother to me and I love him very much.)They adopted my brother in 1965 and our family was complete.I was such a daddy's girl, right up until my Dad breathed his last in this world.There is a huge void since him and My mom went home. She was my best friend, not just my mom.I had wonderful grandparents who doted on me, terrific Aunts and Uncles and fun cousins.If there was ever a "Father Knows Best" house it was mine, and I am not embarrassed to admit it!!We went on wonderful vacations and the memories of those remain with me today. We always went away at Easter and during the summers.From California to Maine we traveled.
I remember one night after having my first daughter I was staying overnight at their home.My daughter was in her port-a-crib in my old room with me.I heard my Dad say to my Mom, "it's a little cold, I am putting another blanket over her".I remember smiling thinking "what a doting Grandpa".I shut my eyes tightly so he would not know I was awake and then felt him gently put another blanket over me.I guess he thought the baby had on a sleeper and a blanket sleeper, plus a blanket and that was enough.I like it cooler so I had just a light weight blanket on, and it was April !I never forgot that though.I felt like a little girl again that night, all safe and warm.
My parents taught me dignity, pride, forgiveness and to never,have and "eye for an eye" mentality.We were taught never to judge anyone according to race,creed or color.
After his retirement from the Police Force he worked several other jobs, including Lever Brothers for ten years.In later years he traveled extensively with his beloved wife (my mother) and enjoyed time with me and my family.Unfortunately the son he loved and raised abandoned them at the time my Dad needed him most. He did not even show up at my Dad's wake or funeral.He did however want some money. LOL My Dad loved to go out to diners to eat and had a great sense of humor.He was a God fearing man and never missed services with my Mother.You could tell him anything and could count on him for good advice.As a Dad he was unsurpassed, always there if I or my children needed him.He loved and told a good joke.After his beloved wife died, a part of him died as well.I look at pictures of him alone and can tell you what ones were taken before my mother died and after. Not by dates, but because his smile and the twinkle in his eyes were gone.He tried to go on, but it was never the same.He was itching to get to his eternal life with "his Kathleen" People who have seen the story The Notebook, tell me I should watch it, because it would remind me of them. I have yet to watch it, I am not ready.***Update 11/08 I did watch the Notebook and while I am quite sure she did not tear her clothes off anytime before her marriage LOL,it could have been them at the end, they met in Oct. and married in April,it was the only I Do either of them were ever to say!***
My Dad died on April 22,2005 right after we had watched one of his favorite shows, "Law and Order".He ENTERED THE KINGDOM OF GOD with his family at my home in Walton, but was brought to L.I. where his beloved Kathleen was laid to rest.You and Mommy were truly gifts from a Great God, true "Angels on Earth".
He is survived by his loving daughter (me) Patricia and ,Granddaughters,Kathleen,Kimberly,Tawanna and Theresa. He lived to see his great-granddaughter Kaylaa Giana, as well
I DID NOT LOSE MY FATHER, I KNOW EXACTLY WHERE HE IS!In paradise with the beautiful soul I called Mommy and with His Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.
I know the first words he heard were "Well Done Good and Faithful Servant".I too hope to hear them one day.
~~A special thank you to "All My Love" for the beautiful icon of me and my dad. I love it. In addition a special thank you to "Andy" for the lovely icons of my parents on my mothers Angel Day, that was a beautiful surprise.
~~~~Heartfelt thanks to all who leave flowers for my beloved Father,I read and treasure everyone and they bring me great comfort and joy.I always try to say thank you,but sometimes time slips away.~~~~

~~He wasn't a hero known by the world; But a hero he was to his little girl. I knew his voice before I could speak and loved it when he would sing me to sleep. He taught us life's lessons of right from wrong and instilled in us values that we might be strong. And so through the years like a hero he stood, working to give all that he could. His presence was important and we loved to see him smile. For no one in the world could emulate his style. And so dear Dad my best memory to recall is the gift of your presence The greatest gift of all.~~

~~Con Te Partirò~~
Quando sono solo
sogno all'orizzonte
e mancan le parole
sì lo so che non c'è luce
in una stanza quando manca il sole
se non ci sei tu con me, con me

su le finestre
mostra a tutti il mio cuore
che hai acceso
chiudi dentro me
la luce che
hai incontrato per strada

con te partirò
paesi che non ho mai
veduto e vissuto con te
adesso sì li vivrò
con te partirò
su navi per mari
che io lo so
no no non esistono più
con te io li vivrò

quando sei lontana
sogno all'orizzonte
e mancan le parole
e io sì lo so che sei con me, con me
tu mia luna tu sei qui con me
mio sole tu sei qui con me, con me, con me, con me

con te partirò
paesi che non ho mai
veduto e vissuto con te
adesso sì li vivrò
con te partirò
su navi per mari
che io lo so
no no non esistono più
con te io li rivivrò

con te partirò
su navi per mari
che io lo so
no no non esistono più
con te io li rivivrò
con te partirò. . .
