He enlisted as a soldier in the Civil War on Feb. 28, 1865, when 21 years old. He was in Co. A, 174th Reg. O.V.I. and on June 15, 1865, was transferred to Co. G., 181st O.V.I. He was discharged July 14, 1865. He was and active member of the Asbury Church for many years. He owned the farm around the Asbury Church.

Wesley Buck married his first wife, Philena Whan on March 30, 1866 in Athens County, Ohio and they had two children: Frederick and an infant Buck. Wesley then married his second wife Lucinda Byers on November 12, 1872 in Athens County, Ohio and they had one son, James E. Buck. Wesley then married his third wife Sarah Lucinda McNamee and they had four children: Waldo Walter, James Ezra Buck and twin infants.
