WILLIAM DENNIS BAITY AND HIS TWO WIVES
---Enoch and Nancy Shores Baity were born in Surry County, North Carolina, and later moved to Morgan County, Illinois. Their final stop was Richland Township, Macon County, Missouri. The Baity and Shores families were among the earliest families in Richland Township. William Dennis Baity, was born in Morgan County, Illinois, on June 25, 1834. His first wife, Eliza Jane Meeks Baity, the third child of Thomas Jefferson and Margaret Rudolph Meeks, was born in Ohio on March 28, 1840. They were married April 1, 1855 in Adair County, Missouri, and they had two children, Eliza died soon after the birth of their second child. His second wife, Frances Elizabeth, (Fannie) Owenby, the middle child of John and Mary Hutchenson Owenby, was born in Macon County, Missouri, on September 3, 1842. She and William Dennis Baity were married on December 4, 1859 and they had eleven children who lived. Their seventh child, Herbert, was the grandfather of Jane Barnett and Mary Barnett Priebe. William Dennis and Fannie were married about thirty-one years. According to the 1900 federal census of Macon County, Missouri, Fannie Baity reported that she was the mother of thirteen children and that eleven were living at that time. We have no information about the birth order or cause of death of the two who died. Fannie was eighteen at the birth of her first child, Maggie, and forty-six at the birth of her last child, Harry. None of William Dennis's seven sons had sons, thus ending the name Baity as a surname in this branch of the family. However, many of the grandsons and future generations have used the name Baity as a given name. William Dennis and Fannie had fourteen grandchildren, seven boys and seven girls. William Dennis was a farmer and a Union soldier during the Civil War. He attained the level of sergeant in Company H, the 42nd Missouri Infantry. He was also a Republican. Fannie was a Presbyterian, and their first son, George, was a Presbyterian minister for over fifty years. William Dennis died October 17, 1894, and Fannie died March 20, 1919. They and many of their children and grandchildren are buried in the La Plata Cemetery.
