Jose Guadalupe Arreguin
Beloved father, brother, grandfather and uncle, passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2005. He was 85 years old. Jose was born in Topeka, Kansas, on December 9, 1919.

At the age of 14, he hopped a boxcar and rode the rails to Chicago, where he was promptly sent back to his family farm by his aunt. Soon after, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and traveled through Nebraska, Utah, South Dakota and Washington, building bridges, helping with road construction and fighting forest fires during the Great Depression.

At the age of 21, Jose enlisted in the Navy and was a sailor on the U.S.S. Pennsylvania, the flag ship of the Naval fleet docked at Pearl Harbor during the 1941 attack. Jose was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Assoc. and made two trips back to Pearl Harbor with his family, for the 50th and 55th anniversaries of the attack.

While Jose was stationed in Oakland, he met his wife of 59 years, Dolores, at a dance. He told us that the moment he saw her he knew that she would be the girl he would marry. They eventually moved to Hayward with their two children and lived there for 52 years. While living in Hayward, Jose worked as a serviceman for PG&E for over 30 years.
Grandpa enjoyed gardening, cooking, trains, traveling and spending time with his family.

He will be joining his wife, Dolores, who passed away three years ago. He is survived by his son, Joe R. Arreguin of Pleasanton, and daughter, Dolores "Babe" Cunha of Fremont; sister Flora Rodriguez of Chicago, Ill.; sister Camerina Ayala and brother David Arreguin, both of Topeka, Kan.; sister Conchie Padilla of Kansas City, Kan.;
nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral from Sorensen Bros. Mortuary, 1140 B St., Hayward, on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, at 10 a.m. Thence to All Saints Church, Hayward, for the funeral liturgy at 10:30 a.m. Visitation at the mortuary Tuesday from 4 to 9 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association. SORENSEN BROS. MORTUARY (510) 581-1234
