David Arthur Drake, 88, of Elmer died at 12:06 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 29, 1987) at Samaritan Memorial Hospital
in Macon where he had been a patient only a brief time.
Born May 26, 1898, at Elmer, he was the son of Carey O. and Sadie (Green) Drake. On July 7, 1919 at Elmer,
he married Emma Lena Perkins who preceded him in death on May 4, 1981.
Also preceding him in death were a daughter who died in infancy and a sister, Naomi Bailey, who died Oct. 27, 1985.
Surviving are three daughters, Virginia Martinez of Duarte, Calif., Mrs. Richard (Louise) Franks of Elmer,
and Mrs. Paul (Carolyn) Epperson of Blue Springs; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and other relatives including Ernest Bailey of Elmer.
Mr. Drake was a lifelong Macon county resident and owned and managed Drake's Grocery Store in Elmer for several years before retiring in 197l. He also was a retired minister having pastored the Friendship Christian Church, northwest of Callao, for several years and the Elmer Christian Church of which he was a member. For the past year, he had resided at the Loch Haven Nursing Home in Macon. He was a veteran of World War I having served in the United States Army.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday *Feb. l, 1987) at the Elmer Christian Church with Porter Naylor, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was in the Elmer Cemetery.
