ADAM ANDREWS, 84
Adam M. Andrews, 84, a resident of the Lewiston area since 1897, and a retired painter, died at 10:08 p.m. Wednesday
at the Orchards Nursing Home. Death was due to cancer. His home was at 1311 16th St.

Mr. Andrews was a self-employed painter when he retired in 1970. He was a Lewiston city fireman from 1924 to 1932 and from 1936 to 1951 he was employed as a painter by the planning survey division of the Idaho Division of Highways.

He was born Nov. 8, 1894 at Chippewa Falls, Wis., the son of Robert M. and Elizabeth Rubenser Andres. Andrews anglicized the name when he was an adult.

The family moved to Idaho in 1897 and settled at Sweetwater. The elder Andres competed in a foot race to claim land when the Indian Reservation was opened for settlement.

Mr. Andrews moved to Lewiston with his family in 1906. For a time, his parents operated an early day restaurant here. Andrews was in the army during World War I.

He married the former Neva Basket at Clarkston Nov. 22, 1924.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Arthur E. of Lewiston; a daughter, Phyllis (Robert) Budweg of Sumner, Wash.; two sisters, Agnes McAmis of Sweetwater; and Helen (Walter) Hastings of Lewiston; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The body will lie in state at the Brower-Wann Chapel today, Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens.
