---George David Billings, age 77, of La Plata, Missouri passed away Thursday (December 4, 2008) at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.
---Born July 7, 1931 near La Plata, Missouri he was the son of Everett A. and Ruby E. (Marquith) Billings. On November 14, 1954 in Kirksville, Missouri he married Beverly J. Brackney, who survives.
---Also surviving are two sisters, Wanda Crawford and husband, Noel of La Plata, Missouri and Sue Miles and husband, Brock of Phillipsburg, Kansas; one sister-in-law, Erma Lea Billings of La Plata, Missouri; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
---He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jay Billings.
---George was a 1950 graduate of La Plata High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He lived most all of his life in the La Plata community where he farmed, also working in heavy construction and carpentry. Upon retiring he enjoyed spending time at his winter home in Florida and fishing, until his health failed. George was a member of the La Plata American Legion Post #282 and long-time member of the Community Presbyterian Church in La Plata, Missouri.
---Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (December 6, 2008) at the Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri. Officiating will be Reverend John Becker.
---Burial with full military honors will be held in the La Plata Cemetery, La Plata, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Austin Meade, Kyle Crawford, Brady Crawford, Beau Crawford, Mark Kelley, Pat Cochran, Ronnie Chaney and Brett Miles.
