College football player. During high school he was called the "Nocona Nugget." He got the nickname "Jackrabbit" during his years at the University of Texas at Austin. He was an All-American halfback for the Longhorns in 1940 and 1941. While in the Navy during World War II, he played on the Georgia Pre-Flight Skycrackers in 1942. After the war, he returned to Nacona where he lived the rest of his life. He was elected to three terms in the Texas House of Representatives. In 1974, he suffered a misfortune when his wife, Jean, was killed when a building in downtown Nocona collapsed from a heavy accumulation of snow.
