Clyde Edward Reed Sr., 94, formerly of Scott City and Commerce, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Oct. 20, 1912, in Lithium, Mo., the son of William Arthur and Nora Peel Reed. He and Eva Mae Bradshaw Moore were married on Nov. 9, 1936, and she preceded him in death on March 18, 1960. He then married Frances Helena Coble Norton in December 1963.
Reed was a master pilot and captain from 1944 to 1972 for Lea River Lines and Upper Mississippi Towing Corp. and the Heinz Barge Lines. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Helena Reed of Cape Girardeau; three sons, Clyde Reed Jr. of Big Canoe, Ga., Odis Reed of Houston, Texas and Rodger Reed of Jackson; two daughters, Patricia LeGrand of Houston, Texas and Susan Bond of Cape Girardeau; one half-brother, Curtis Clymer of Cape Girardeau, a half-sister, Dorothy Kunz of St. Louis; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Thomas Morris officiating. Burial will be at the Forest Hills Cemetery in Morley, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southeast Hospice, 10 Doctors' Park, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63701.
