Joseph VanGennip, a prominent farmer and stockman of near Dongola, died Saturday, March 24, 1923, after a very short illness. He was in poor health since last fall after having a severe cold. On Thursday before his death, he had an attack of cold or "flu" and commenced taking some quinine, hoping to be able to break it up, but he gradually grew worse until he died Saturday. Joe was a prosperous young farmer and was a likable fellow and had a host of friends who will greatly miss him. He will, especially, be missed by the BANNER force as he made it a point when in town to call and give us some news and the happenings of interest in his community. He always came in and left with a smile, making us feel better for his having made us a visit. His remains were laid to rest in the Leopold Cemetery, Monday in a plot of ground that was cleared by his father when he was a boy. There were a large number of relatives and friends who followed the remains to their last resting place. He leaves a wife, brothers and sisters who will greatly miss him.
