Edward was born to Josephine Gatewood of St. Michaels, and Edward B. Anderson Sr. of Sawmill. His was Honaghaahnii and born to the Totsohnii. He had four sisters and three brothers. Edward was born at home in St. Michaels, Arizona. He died at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix Arizona.

Edward enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. from 1942-1945. He served in the 1st Marine Division and was stationed in the South Pacific, Australia, Guadalcanal, New Guinea and New Britain. Mr. Anderson was a Navajo Code Talker. He was awarded the Purple Heart, South Pacific Ribbons and the Congressional Silver Medal.

Mr. Anderson lived in Cornfields, and St. Michaels Arizona, the majority of his life. He was married to Ione Hillis Anderson (deceased), they had five children, six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

Edward's funeral will be on July 25, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ganado Presbyterian Church, viewing will be held at 9:00 a.m. His burial will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Fort Defiance. A reception will follow. There will be two gatherings one held on Wednesday July 23, 2014 at Cornfields Chapter house at 6:00 p.m. A second gathering will be at the St. Michaels Chapter House on Thursday July 24, 2014 at 6:00 p.m.
