He was born August 17th, 1929 in Ste. Genevieve, the son of Valentine and Leona (Wipfler) Weiler, who both preceded him in death.
He married Doris A. Difani on April 2nd, 1951. She survives.
He is also survived by three sons and daughters in law: Michael "Skip" and Kim Weiler, Robert "Bob" and Karen Weiler and Kevin and Jan Weiler, all of Ste. Genevieve; two daughters and sons in law, Cheryl and Wayne Hoog and Linda and James "Jim" Palmer, all of Ste. Genevieve; a brother and sister in law, Virgil and Judy Weiler of Schertz, Texas and a sister, Anna Mae Arnold of Ste. Genevieve; 17 grandchildren; six great grandchildren and his mother in law, Della Difani of St. Mary.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers: Ernest C. Weiler, Oswald "Ozzie" Burle and LeRoy Burle; and his stepmother, Rose Caroline Hoog Burle Weiler.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 150, VFW Post No. 2210, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1037, Quarry Workers Local No. 829.
He served as city collector from 1957 to 1971 and was mayor from the early 1970s to the mid 1980s.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, January 24th at the Basler Funeral Home in Ste. Genevieve. The Knights of Columbus service will be at 6:30 p.m. The VFW and Legion service will be at 7 p.m.
A funeral for 78-year-old Ervin M. Weiler of Ste. Genevieve will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 25th at the Church of Ste. Genevieve. The Rev. Daniel Mosley will officiate.
Burial will be in the Valle Spring Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Valle Schools Foundation, to masses or to the American Lung Association.
