Ishmael Joseph Scherer of Ste. Genevieve died Thursday, March 10, 1994, at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 14, 10 am at the Church of Ste. Genevieve, with Rev. Michael Witt and Deacon George Wood officiating. Burial was in Valle Spring Cemetery. Stanton-Wood Mortuary handled the arrangements.
He was born June 14, 1916, in Ste. Genevieve, a son of the late William Jules and Stella Marie (Richer) Scherer.
He was married March 5, 1940, in Ste. Genevieve by Rev. Henry Ahrens, to Elaine Wehmeyer, who survives.
Other survivors include three daughters and two sons, Dianne (Mrs. Richard) Basler of St. Louis; Susan (Mrs. Ed) Brown of Farmington; Sharon (Mrs. Tom) Melia of San Antonio, Texas; Tom and Jerry Scherer, both of Ste. Genevieve; two brothers, Warren and Keith Scherer, both of Ste. Genevieve; 15 granchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, Marvin and Malcolm Scherer, Dorothy Schwent and Constance Farrell.
He was a member of American Legion Post 150, VFW Post 2210, UTU Trainmen, and Ste. Genevieve Parish.
The family requests memorials to Valle Schools or American Heart Association.
