My father was the youngest of four children. He was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School and Louisiana State University, he also attended the Colorado School of Mines while working on a degree in Geology at LSU. He was a member of the United States Army with the rank of Major, and led his troops in on the beaches at D-Day. He returned to Normandy on several occasions to visit the beaches and attend ceremonies where he landed and lost so many of his men. He met my mother, Mary Belle Horton, while stationed at Camp Butner, North Carolina, she was a wartime bride. They settled in Baton Rouge but soon moved to Baker, LA. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Baker Planning Commission, Baker Methodist Church and an avid bird watcher. He had four children and seven grandchildren. He had a great love of history, reading and practical jokes. He is deeply missed by all of his family.
