Johanna Carney grew up in the little German town of Bruchköbel. She immigrated to the U.S. after marrying a handsome American soldier, Wayne Carney. She was an excellent cook and baker with a great sense of humor. My friends loved being at my home because Mom kept us well fed and made them laugh. When I was six-years-old, the neighborhood kids rang the doorbell and asked if Mrs. Carney would come out and play with them. One of my teachers would request Mom's cupcakes because her frosting was homemade and delicious. She definitely was the neighborhood Kool-Aid mom. She crocheted many afghans, baby items, doilies and even Barbie clothes. She loved to sing and I was in high school before I knew that not all families broke into songs and dances from musicals.

Mom had a very outgoing personality and many friends. At her funeral home visitation, numerous ladies told me Johanna was their best friend. My husband says she was the best mother-in-law in the world. The two of them would often go shopping and to lunch. She was an avid rose and flower gardener.
