He was found dead on Monday, November 13, 1972 in his car parked near Tecula, Cherokee County, Texas. He had been fishing at Mud Creek. The local Justice of the Peace rendered a verdict of death due to an apparent heart attack. He was 42 years old.

I remember as a small child, I would see my Uncle Bill drive up in his black and white patrol car. I would look at him in his uniform in awe. I never dreamed that one day I would follow in his footsteps and also become a Texas State Trooper.
