My great great great grandfather.

Edley Powell was born in 1792 in South Carolina. His father was Robert Taylor Powell. He had two brothers, Thomas Jefferson Powell and Tilman Powell.

He was a veteran of the War of 1812. He received an Honoralbe Discharge in 1814. His service number was 8273-120-55.

He moved to Georgia and in 1820 settled in the town of Clayton in Rabun County, known as the Tallulah District. He represented Rabun County in the State Legislature from 1820 to 1823. In 1824, he was Justice of the Inferior Court.

On April 8, 1826 he married Elizabeth Parks. They were blessed with ten children: Arsenia Powell, John McB Powell, Isaiah Powell, Almon Powell, Malinda Powell Derrick, Thomas B. Powell, Tillman Powell, Lucy Powell, Robert Thomas Powell, and Andrew J. Powell.

By the year 1850, he was one of the richest men in Georgia owning over 8,000 acres of land.

He died on May 7, 1864 in Rabun County, Georgia.
