Sherry Gray Townsend Griffin was born in Greenwood, Mississippi, and died in Winona, Mississippi. She graduated from Winona High School, Delta State College and later earned her masters degree from the University of Mississippi. Sherry was a dedicated public school teacher and touched many young lives throughout her 32 year career in education.

Sherry had a compassionate, tender heart for all creatures, particularly hungry, abused, neglected and/or abandoned cats and kittens. She rescued and found homes for numerous animals throughout her lifetime.

She was married to Thomas Cleveland Griffin, also a graduate of Winona High School and Delta State College, for 40 years before her untimely death.

It was as though Sherry could not accept the cruelties and lack of compassion in today's world, and she took her own life after struggling deeply within herself for quite a long period of time.

Sherry was preceded in death by her father, Jack Townsend. In addition to her husband, Sherry was survived by her mother, Arlice Dotson Townsend, until March 14, 2008; her brother and sister-in-law, John and Connie Townsend; her niece and husband, Leslie and Junior Shows, and her nephew and wife, Jason and Katie Townsend. She leaves one great nephew, Noah Thomas Townsend as well as great nieces, Elle Townsend and Riley Shows. Sherry had two dear friends, Margo Bond and Mamie Trussell, who still miss her daily.

Sherry also left behind her precious cats: Katie, Buddy, Sam, Duke, Andi and Cleo ~ all who have now joined her in Heaven.

Sherry was a member of First Baptist Church of Winona, and her funeral service was held at the church.
