Jennifer Magan was born in May 1977. She lived only 10 years, but in those 10 years, she taught me a lot. Her favorite bands were Poison, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, and other 80's great musicians. She also loved her cats, Tigger, Blacky & Minji. She was very much loved & adored by everyone who knew her. She was a great sister to me, even though she kept stealing my Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen and other cassette tapes, but I always got revenge on her & stole mine back, plus a few of hers. We were the average brother & sister team. We lived in the same generation. She liked my music, I liked hers, she liked my movies, I liked hers (with the exception of Rainbow Brite & Care Bears..YUCK!) :) We had those common brother-sister wars, but we were basically close most of the time. When we were in elementary school together, she would always stick up for me whenever I got picked on for my disabilities, which was rare, but whenever I did get picked on, she was always there to mouth off at my opponent.

One of the memory's I have of Jennifer was that she loved dogs, as well as cats. One time, our cat APRIL was having kittens, out in the pouring rain. Jennifer was 8 years-old. She went outside, and for 15 minutes in the pouring rain,
searched like mad for April. She wouldn't quit searching. She found April and her new kittens in the puddle next to her. One kitten had died drowning, but Jen saved the other kittens and April from the downpouring rain.

As I said earlier, she loved dogs too. So, one day, she was in school and a blind man talked to her class about seeing-eye dogs. Jennifer was 7 years-old. After school, she came home and asked my parents if she can train a seeing-eye dog for a year. She pleaded and pleaded, and finally got her wish. My parents went down to the seeing eye dog center, and they and Jennifer were interviewed. The center granted Jennifer to be a seeing-eye dog trainer, and for one year, we took care of a black lab named Molly. When Molly had to go back to the center to do some intense training, Jennifer took it hard at first, but she got over it. 3 years after Jennifer's death, my parents took a walk one day to visit her memorial bench her Elementary School made in her memory. As soon as they were in eyesight of the bench, they saw something very shocking to them. There was a stray black lab sleeping under her memorial bench. They brought it home and named her..Molly 2

She was a great sister to her 3 brothers, a great daughter to our parents, she will be extremely missed by everyone who knew her. We love you Jennifer.

P.S. For those of you wondering what was the cause of death, here it is: Jennifer was spending the night over at her friend's house. On the morning of March 20th 1988, around 6:45 a.m. they woke up, went into the kitchen and saw that there was nothing to drink. So, Jennifer and her friend Doretta decided to take a walk to the local Circle K to get a coke. (Circle K is like a 7-11). In order to get to the mini mart, they had to cross a highway with 6 lanes on it. (Highway 18). So they ran across the highway. Doretta was in front of Jennifer as they ran across it. When Doretta made it safely on the sidewalk, she heard a thump behind her. She turned around, and Jennifer was laying down on the last lane with a yellow Ford pickup truck backing away from Jennifer's body. The truck had hit Jennifer, going 40 mph, when Jennifer was running across the last lane. She almost made it to the sidewalk...

During the funeral service, the poem TREES by Joyce Kilmer was recited because she thought the area we lived in at the time lacked trees. Also, OVER THE RAINBOW, and THE ROSE was sung during the service also.

A month or so after Jennifer's death, her elementary school put a memorial bench in front of the school, with trees surrounding it. Jennifer loved trees.

TREES

by Joyce Kilmer

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
