Gwyneth "Gwenshine" Blauer Gilden, our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Sister departed from Logan Utah on March 24, 2014, at the tender age of 91, to begin a new adventure. Gwen was home delivered in River Heights Utah on August 13, 1922 to Violet Irene and John Fredrick Blauer, the 2nd of 7 children. After graduating from South Cache High School Gwen held odd jobs, helped raise her Sisters and Brothers and did what most normal young women did – go dancing. It was at a Saturday night dance that her life changed forever; the night she met the love of her life, Charles Jacob "Jake" Gilden. She married Jake on August 4, 1950 and moved to Salt Lake City where they raised their 3 children. Once her children were grown Gwen and Jake retired back to Logan where her life began. Gwen enjoyed 51 years of blissful marriage before Jake preceded her in death in 2001. Their marriage was later sealed in the Logan Temple.
Gwen was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and her faith and family were her life. She was above all a wife, mother and homemaker, but in her spare time she became an accomplished pianist, served as Room Monitor and PTA member in her children's school, was an avid jigsaw puzzler, a wizard at Chinese Checkers, a master at wrapping Christmas presents without tape, hostess at Guinavah-Malibu campground in Logan Canyon and an intrepid traveler.
Gwen is preceded in death by her parents and husband as well as 3 Brothers; Rodney, Wally and Blaine. She is survived by 2 Sisters; Karma Stephens (Logan, Ut) and Afton Meyer (Oroville, Ca), 1 Brother; Wendell "Prune" Blauer (River Heights, Ut), 3 Children; Karen Gilden Wood (Tom), Charles J. Gilden (Kris) and John T. Gilden (Susan), 6 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren and nieces and nephews too numerous to mention. She will be dearly missed by all of us, but after 91 years she has earned the right to be re-united with her husband and all the loved ones who have passed before her. We are sending her off with our love and best wishes on her new adventure.
Funeral services will be at 1:00pm on Saturday March 29th at Allen Hall Mortuary Chapel on 34 East Center Street in Logan. Viewings will be held at the mortuary on Friday, March 28th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturday from 10:30am to 12:30pm before services. Interment will be at Providence Cemetery.
