He was born in North Mundham, a couple of miles from Chichester. His family had lived in County Sussex for over 200 years. He married Jane Wickham second (the name of his first wife is not known). Three of their sons immigrated to America in 1639, and one of them, George, was the progenitor of the Chatfield family in the U.S. Henry's wife Jane died in 1638 and it is believed that she is buried here as well.
