"All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." Psalm 139:16

Margaret was born in Boyne Falls, Michigan, and raised in the Chandler Hill area. She graduated from Boyne Falls High School in 1941. On Feb. 20, 1959, she married Raymond Behling of Boyne City, where they made their home and raised their family. He preceded her in death Sept. 19, 1979. She worked full time outside the home and was a devoted wife and mother. She retired from United Technologies in 1985, moving to Petoskey in 1988, where she resided until her death. She had many loves and hobbies; painting, sewing, reading and praying. She was a woman of remarkable faith and belief who for many years met daily with a small group of prayer warriors meeting to pray for the needs of people known and unknown to her, and the needs of her community and world. It was well known you only needed to call Granny and you and those whom you love would be held in prayer daily. She passed away peacefully, quietly and in God's perfect timing. She was also preceded in death by her seven brothers and sisters and her granddaughter, Miriam Behling. She is survived by her 10 children: Martha (Joseph) Finnan of Rutherfordton, N.C., Carl (Karen) Howard of Alger, Mich., Raymond (Vickie) Behling of South Bend, Ind., Richard (Nancy) Behling of Fort Worth, Texas, Bill Behling of Boyne City, Mich., Rex (Maxine) Stark-Behling of Boyne City, Mich., Margaret Kenney of East Jordan, Mich., David (Dawn) Behling of Harbor Springs, Mich., Marianne (Bruce) Chellis of Central Lake, Mich., Laura (Jay) Peck of East Jordan, Mich.; and a beloved niece, Gail (Richard) Bouters of Boyne City, Mich. She has 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Family remembrances:

"Granny, as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, was the best cook in the entire world!! She poured her heart into her cooking, and made every meal special. Boiled dinner, tender pork chops, fried chicken, a mean roast with all the trimmings, her famous baked beans, cornbread and heavenly homemade bread; fresh baked pies always leaving some extra crust with cinnamon and sugar for all to have as a snack. She consistently kept an orderly, clean home, full of the blessings of God and His word. Her home was a place of familiar refuge; long remembered after all these years. She was a unique woman whose greatest joy and honor was her family. Nothing brought more joy or caused her to beam any brighter than to talk of one of her 10 children. She was a constant source of encouragement, guidance without judgment, and love without limits."

"Her entire life is an example of love; patterned after the way of Christ Jesus and His teachings. She was gentle, loving, soft-spoken, straight-forward and down to earth. Her hugs could wipe away all tears. She is our beloved Mother and we will remember her always and memorialize her life in our hearts."

"With the writer of Proverbs 31, we, her children, rise and call her 'Blessed.' Her love will live on in our hearts and minds — in all we do. Thank you, God, for our mother. She is surely happy with you now, Lord, with all her friends and family, sisters and brothers in Christ; rejoicing for eternity. She will be missed."

(July 31, 1924 - October 4, 2009)

"All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be" - Psalm 139:16 "A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us, when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts." Our mother Margaret Behling passed away peacefully, quietly and in God's perfect timing, October 4. Her entire life is an example of love; patterned after the way of Christ Jesus and His teachings. She was gentle, loving, soft-spoken, straight-forward and down to earth. Her hugs could wipe away all tears. She is our beloved Mother and we will remember her always and memorialize her life in our hearts. She will be missed. "The mother is everything - she is our consolation in sorrow, our hope in misery, and our strength in weakness. She is the source of love, mercy, sympathy, and forgiveness. He who loses his mother loses a pure soul who blesses and guards him constantly." Our mother was the best cook in the entire world!!
