"For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive." 1 Corinthians 15:22

Ruth was born in Hudson, Michigan, the daughter of Edmund L. and Luena O. DeLine, and raised in Clayton. She met her future husband, Sherwyn Mowrer, while earning a B.A. in elementary education at Wheaton College. They were married in 1970 at Clayton Bible Church. During their life and ministry together, they made their motto the same as their alma mater's, "For Christ and His Kingdom." She then went on to earn an M.A. and Ph.D. through the School of Education at the University of Michigan. Residing in Adrian since 1972, they were blessed with two children, Kevin and Karen. In 1984, she and her husband teamed up with five other couples to organize an Evangelical Free church in Adrian, later named Grace Point Evangelical Free Church. In 2002, she retired from a 25-year teaching career that had originally began in a northside Chicago school district, continuing into the State of Michigan with the Hudson Area Schools, Jackson Community College, LISD Technical Center, Siena Heights University and Lenawee Christian School. She went home to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease, and is survived by her husband, Dr. Sherwyn W. Mowrer of Adrian; by their children, Kevin (Stacy) Mowrer of Chelsea and Karen J. Mowrer of Los Angeles; her grandchildren, Chloe, Max and Will; and by her brother, John (Kathy) DeLine of Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service was held at Grace Point Evangelical Free Church in Adrian, with Pastor John Trimble officiating.

Below is an article Ruth wrote for the LCS newsletter, 'The Signal', upon her retirement from teaching in 2002:

... Fond Farewell by Ruth Mowrer

"After several months of discussion and prayer, my husband and I concluded that the Lord was directing us to retire. My years of teaching at LCS had been richly rewarding and deeply satisfying. The students, their families, and the staff were so faithful to encourage and support me as a teacher and as a friend. Three of the consistent attributes that the LCS family sought to share were love, service, and gratitude. While the path was difficult at times, we could depend on Christ to draw us together so we could shine for Him. Often this led us to acts of service that reflected our love in a visible way. Whether a note of encouragement, a dinner, or a gift of prayer, the LCS family was always ready to help. Finally, we appreciated the spirit of gratitude that was shown. There was a prevailing sense of thanksgiving for many things, from the beautiful building and grounds to the kind and joyous fellowship. As my husband and I begin a new phase of life, we will treasure the memories of LCS. We will follow the milestones and ministries of staff and students with interest. We hope to spend time with our children Kevin ('94) and Karen ('00). We would like to travel, and have booked a ten-day trip to London in the spring. We look forward to visiting the land that we have read so much about. Most of all, we want to be open to God's direction in the days ahead. Our college motto still rings true: "For Christ and His Kingdom."
