Obituary

On Saturday, October 29th Deputy Sheriff Dan Glaze Jr. served his last watch doing what he loved and was born to do. Dan will be remembered for his strength, dedication to family, sense of humor, and enthusiasm. He was a son, husband, father, brother, mentor, and friend to all of those he met. Those who knew him or met him were all impacted by his passion and willingness to sacrifice for others in order to benefit the greater good of all. Dan’s courage will forever be our protection.

Dan, known affectionately to his family as Boone, grew up in the Birchwood area and graduated from Birchwood Public Schools in 2001. It was there that he met and fell in love with Sarah King, who would later become his wife. After high school Dan briefly entered the workforce before making the decision to pursue his calling in law enforcement. He completed the Criminal Justice Program and Law Enforcement Recruit School at WITC in Rice Lake.

Dan served on the Fall Creek Police Department, Sawyer County Sheriff’s Department and Hayward Police Department before serving his last watch with the Rusk County Sheriff’s Department. He had recently achieved a career goal of becoming a member of the Rusk County SWAT Team.

Dan found solace on annual camping trips to the Chippewa Flowage, hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He took pride in passing on his tradition for his son, Levi.

Dan is survived by his loving wife and high-school sweetheart, Sarah (King) Glaze and three children, Kendall (18), Levi (5) and Eliana (5 months); his parents, Dan & Jan Glaze of Birchwood, WI; brothers, John and Allen Glaze both of Birchwood, WI; mother and father-in-laws, Warren & Mary King of Stone Lake, WI; brother-in-law, Jeremiah (Heidi) King of Ft. Collins, CO; and sisters-in-law, Hannah (Alex) Brevik of Delafield, WI and Rachel (Chris) Chard of Sacramento, CA; aunts & uncles, Ike & Dorian Glaze, Tim & Debra Glaze, Sue Servin & Steve Haller, Bill Glaze & Diana Olmstead, Tami Peterson, Connie & John Diaz, Beverly Zieroth, and Nancy Jowers & David Yndestad; as well as his brothers and sisters in Blue.

Funeral Services will be held 1:30 PM Friday, November 4, 2016 at the Old Elementary School in Cameron, WI. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM Friday at the School.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to a trust fund that will be made in Dan’s children’s name.
