Situated in Lüneburg Heath, Germany, the memorial is located on the grounds of the former Nazi POW (Prisoner of War) and concentration camp Bergen-Belsen. The camp stands in testament to memory of the more than 50,000 who died there between 1940 to 1945. Within the compound, there is a document center, museum, mass grave monolith and the Jewish Monument erected on April 15, 1946, the first anniversary of the camp's liberation by the British Army. Also there is a memory marker to Holocaust Diarist Anne Frank and her sister Margot who died in the camp and are buried in an unmarked mass grave on the grounds.
