A Civil War veteran for a brief and uneventful period, he enlisted during a crisis period and mustered into state service at Elizabethtown September 13, 1862, as a private with Co. I, 16th Pennsylvania Militia, and honorably discharged with his company September 25, 1862, after the crisis had passed.
There is some unconfirmed evidence that he may have lived his last years in Illinois, and neither Pennsylvania death certificate nor obituary was found for him.
