Born and raised in Indiana, she was the daughter of Foster McClure and Virginia Katherine "Gin" Elder McClure. She was a graduate of Greencastle High School in Greencastle and St. Anthony School of Nursing in Terre Haute. She was a Captain in the Army Nurses' Corps and was stationed in Hawaii. There she met and married Sgt Emile "Rick" Charlier. The couple moved back to Indiana to start a family after he retired from the service. They had a son, Shane, and a daughter, Tracy. She also had a beautiful granddaughter who was the apple of her eye. After she retired, the couple moved to St. Cloud, Florida.

She loved Find A Grave and felt that it gave her life purpose in helping everyone be remembered. In February 2008, she was diagnosed with lung cancer. At the time, the doctors indicated she had 6 months to a year to live. She made it another 14 months.

Rest in peace, Barbara.
