THELMA R. GREENLEE
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Services for Thelma Roan Greenlee, 92, Albuquerque, NM, formerly of Ada, are 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, the Rev. John Haynes officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Stonewall.
Mrs. Greenlee died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, at an Albuquerque hospital. She was born April 1, 1914, at Stonewall to John and Mary Frances Leach Roan.
Her family moved to the Stonewall area from Commerce, Texas. She attended Stonewall schools, graduating from Stonewall High School. She received a bachelor's of science degree in Early Childhood Education and a master's of education from East Central University in Ada.
Mrs. Greenlee was a grade school and junior high teacher. She started the first remedial reading program in New Mexico.
Mrs. Greenlee began her teaching career at Ahloso and Calvin. She also taught at Stonewall. She taught for 24 years in the Lovington, N.M., schools. Mrs. Greenlee retired to Ada in 1981 and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Ada. She was also an active member of the Daughter's of the American Revolution, and belonged to the AAUW.
She married Robert Greenlee April 15, 1943. He died July 24, 1972.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Greenlee and wife Lynn, Albuquerque, N.M., and James Greenlee and wife Gloria, Bandera, Texas; a daughter, Jane Greenlee Shoemake, Tulsa; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Pauline Roan, Ada.
Bearers include grandsons Evan Greenlee, James Greenlee II, Kelly Greenlee, Derrick Shoemake, and Dan Duhigg.
