Ms. Cox was a sophomore in the magnet program at Chamblee Charter High School in DeKalb County, Ga. Born in St. Simons Island, Ga., Oct. 29, 1989, Ms. Cox was an outstanding student and athlete.
Kathryn Cox was an honor roll student and earned varsity letters in cross-country and soccer during her first two years at Chamblee High School. She received the cross-country Rookie of the Year Award in 2004 and The Coaches Award in 2005. Ms. Cox twice won the DeKalb County Science Fair and Georgia State Science Fair in 2004. She sang in the Chamblee High School Chorus and was a member of the German Club.
Ms. Cox was active in Young Life of North Atlanta, a Christian Youth organization. She knew high school students throughout the area through Young Life, club soccer teams at TYSA and the DeKalb-Decatur Y.
Kathryn Cox is survived by her parents, Martha Johnson and Bill and Ekaterina Cox; younger sister, Emily Cox; maternal grandfather, Walter Johnson of Asheville, N.C.; paternal grandparents, Horace and Hearley Cox of Clayton, N.C.
A memorial service was held Wednesday at Clairmont Presbyterian Church in Decatur, Ga. (404) 634-3355).
