WILBURN CARTER
Funeral services for Durant resident Wilburn C. Carter, 72, were Monday at Fairview Baptist Church, Durant. The Rev. Darrell Edwards officiated. Burial followed in Forest Hill Cemetery near Idabel.
Coffey-Murray Funeral Home, Durant, was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Carter died Friday at Texoma Medical Center, Durant. He was born Feb. 7, 1932, at Broken Bow.
Mr. Carter retired from the military in 1970 after 20 years of service. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. He was a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), winning "Volunteer of the Year" this year. He also worked with Palitive Hospice.
He and Helen Caldwell were married Oct. 22, 1971, at Clarksville, Texas. She preceded him in death on March 24, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Bennett Franklin and Effie (Wilson) Carter; two sons, J.C. Magar and Leon Carter; and a sister, Vernie Bell.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Carter, Madill, and James Carter, Broken Arrow; his daughters, Ruby Smith, Houston, Texas, Margie Chappell, Garvin, Janet Fuller, Madill, Mary Wingfield, Durant, Robert Magar, Valliant, and Denise Carter and Beverly Horridge, both of New Boston, Texas; the mother of his children, Margaret Doan, New Boston, Texas; and a sister, Genova Loyd, De Queen, Ark.
